Fort Harrison

Fort Harrison is one of the sites of the larger Richmond National Battlefield Park, 13 park units across Hanover, Henrico, and Chesterfield counties. The fort has a Visitor Center which is open seasonally. Fort Harrison was the strongest part of the defenses around Richmond because of its clear line of site to the James River. However, it was lightly fortified, and Union soldiers quickly took the fort. The fort was renamed Fort Burnham after the Union general killed in the attack of September 29th. The National Park Service provides a 9 stop walking tour of the fort's remnants.
