Booming on the Battlefield
Shiloh National Military Park
Shiloh, TN 38376
On Saturday, August 1, the roar of Civil War cannon will once again echo across the battlefield as Shiloh National Military Park presents cannon firing demonstrations featuring two historic artillery pieces recreating a section of a Confederate artillery battery.
The artillery section for the August 1 demonstrations will consist of a 10-pounder Parrott Rifle and a 6-pounder Field Gun. Both types of cannon were used extensively during the Battle of Shiloh, including the four Parrott Rifles of Stone's Battery, which occupied the area where these demonstrations will take place.
Demonstrations will be presented at 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., 2:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m. across the street from the park's visitor center. Each 20-minute program will explore the organization of Civil War field artillery, the duties of the cannoneers, the different types of ammunition used, and the procedures followed to safely load and fire the guns. During each demonstration, both cannon will be fired twice.
See, hear, and feel the power af cannon fire on the battlefield!
